My first post on this blog in a long, long time. Feels weird. Since the demise of the WEIH website & blogger, I started my own personal blog. Some of you know this. Anywho, Sean finished his guitar tracks last night. Seriously. This is not a joke. He is finished. We walked in hoping to, at least, finish 2 of the 4 songs. As it turns out, 1 of the 4 songs, Kill Broadcast, only required moving part of the track forward to give it a more driving feel. Sean finished the other three songs in record time. I was quite impressed. Now we need only record the new song that will take the place of Sound The Alarm. We may even record vocals this weekend. Good times! Stay tuned for updates. -Sergei xo Sunday, August 05, 2007
Ok so things have been quiet and more than a month has passed since I posted here. However, I'll be heading into the studio tonight to do some work. Not sure yet of what I'm going to work on, but there will be something. I'm going to practice some now and then later tonight I'll actually record it. Who knows? Maybe something with vocals will be worked on... Tuesday, June 19, 2007
And I'm back to prove that it wasn't just a fluke. Our blog actually does work. So, I made good on my claim of completing more guitar tracks this week. We have a song called "Silhouettes" that I completed guitar tracks for tonight. The funny thing is it's the one song I dreaded working on the most and yet it probably went the fastest for me, with the least amount of frustration. I've again employed the POD Pro XT for reference purposes and will reamp my tracks later through a real guitar amp. I must admit that the POD doesn't sound bad though. If you tweak it enough and have a pretty decent grip on what your room sounds like, you can usually dial up a tone that's usable. Granted, you'll spend way more time than you would with a decent amp, a decent mic, good mic positioning, etc. However, if I heard some of the sounds that I've gotten out of it on a record (and something tells me I have), I wouldn't think the tones are awful. They just lack the dynamics of a real overdriven amp. An overdriven tube guitar amp has a multi-band compressor kind of thing going on. Generally, the midrange stuff and the high frequency stuff is pretty level with little change in volume. However, the bass tends to have an enveloping effect, which can be exaggerated depending on how you play it. The Pod tries REALLY hard to emulate this, and it does a hell of a lot better job at doing it than anything I could write software for. However, it's just not like a real amp, no matter how you cut it. It's too much like playing through a direct box... I guess that is because it effectively is a direct box. Anyway, back to the song. Well, there isn't much I can say as I didn't write the lyrics for it. However, i'm sure Serg will have an earful for anyone who is interested, once it's finished. Which reminds me; I officially have 4 songs to go and I'm done. Then, it's vocal time. Then, it's mix time. Finally, it's... well, I'm not sure. Whatever that fate might be though, we're hurdling towards it now. I'll try to get more done on Thursday night, but I'm not holding my breath. It'll depend largely on how busy I am with work. Anyway, stay tuned as more will come down the pike. Soon. xo <3 Sean Saturday, June 16, 2007
Heeeeelllllooooooooo you crazy mofo. This site has been barren for months, hell, years. Well, a night in got me to finally do SOMETHING about it. You might be saying to yourself, "You guys are still a band?????? I just happened to (fill in the blank) and thought I'd come by to see if there was anything... but you're still a band?!" The answer is "Yes". We've been working on a new record for quite some time... now before I get hammered any worse than I already have (and deservedly so), everyone else has gotten their stuff done. I'm the only one who hasn't. So it's my fault. I'm not going to go into excuses here or any B.S. I'm going to try to get my stuff finished before the end of the month, which means Serg and I can start tracking his vocals when our schedules mesh. After that, it's little stuff and pretty much mix time, which should go a hell of a lot faster this time around as the sounds getting recorded are much better than last time. Yeah, I know, you couldn't care less about "sounds" and "tracking" and whatever other crap I want to throw your way. You want to hear the new songs, right? Serg took the reigns from me for the MySpace page and got that spruced up a bit. He also included a rough mix of a new song, sans vocals. If you've already heard it then I guess it's probably not news to you. Then again, if you're looking at this page, chances are you haven't been following us on MySpace and this is probably all news! Anyway, the previous posts you see here were back when we were sharing server space with a bunch of bands who have real internet traffic going to their sites (I think we were on the server that held Glassjaw, Thursday, and SOIA, among others) and that server died a wretched death. In true Sean form, I didn't have a backup of our site so when it finally shit the bed, it shat our website out to. I think Austin is/was working on a new site idea that is/was to be relevant to the new record's theme. I'm not sure where he is with that or if he's even had time to work on it. He's a big time freelance graphic designer now. Well, not really "big time", but the guy works freelance which means someone is willing to pay him for his work. Serg is still pursuing his degree in Education. Lou is still the sickest fucking person alive. I'm still a corporate schlep, working for the Man. The key to that is that I get to work from home 2 out of the 4 days per week that I work. Yep, I work a 4 day week. Oh, and I'm getting married next year. So, yeah, we're all getting much older and fatter (except for Serg. That kid is ripped). However, we are still making a new record. I think my getting this blog to work tonight has inspired me to get some tracks done this week. I'll keep you guys (hell, anyone out there?) updated on my progress. Until we have a proper website, this will have to do. Maybe I can dork with it a bit and put up some links to tracks or something. I'll see if I can figure it out. Oh well, check back at your leisure, you salty dog. -Sean Sunday, February 05, 2006
